It’s official, SCC makes the Best Dairy Product! What makes this even better is that this is the second time that our Welsh Creamery has been bestowed this title.
Our Vintage Cheddar with Leeks has been named Best Dairy Product 2018 at the Food Management Today Industry Awards. The Food Management Today Industry Awards recognises creativity, innovation and excellence in British food and only awarded to the best in the industry. It is a phenomenal achievement to win the Dairy Product category as there is a stringent judging process with taste, texture, packaging, presentation and innovation all considered.
The Vintage Cheddar with Leeks cheese is hand-pressed and perfectly exemplifies our Welsh heritage. Our Vintage Cheese is made with milk produced by our Welsh farmers who are members of our dairy co-operative. The Welsh Cheddar is made the traditional way and left to mature for at least 14 months to ensure that we deliver customers with the best savoury cheddar with great depth of flavour. The addition of leeks, the national symbol of Wales, is a further ‘nod’ to our Welsh roots. The leeks provide an oniony tang to the cheese. It is delicious with a hunk of freshly baked bread or a light crisp cracker. The cheese is just as good when cooking, so for a little inspiration visit the recipe pages on our Dragon website.
We have a prime focus to deliver quality products and service. Awards like this are very important, especially when they recognise the co-operative and our Dragon branded products as ‘the best’. It is an endorsement to our progress and development and our continued commitment to producing high quality Welsh cheese.
The award ceremony was held at the Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington and was hosted by Chef John Torode. Shon Jones, our Chief Cheese Grader collected the award on behalf of the co-operative.
South Caernarfon Creameries first won this award in 2016 with Welsh Slate Cavern Aged Cheddar; a unique cheddar that is matured underground at the nearby Llechwedd Slate Caverns.
